Chicago Bears | Garrett Wolfe

I’ve been meaning to write about this when I found out about it on Saturday, but time just wasn’t on my side. It still isn’t… but, I can’t wait any longer!

I watched the first round of the NFL Draft on Saturday, before I went out for dinner and drinks with a friend. After dinner, I went to pick up a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard from DQ on my way home to surprise Paula, when my cell phone alerted me of a text message from my boy, Bill:

“Bears just drafted garrett wolfe in the 3rd round”

Holy crap!!! I was so excited! I literally went nuts and yelled and cheered in my car. I would’ve loved to be someone that was driving beside me… I must’ve looked like a crazy loon! 😛

I texted back Bill and a bunch of other friends:

“FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!!”

Half of them still probably don’t know what I was talking about! 😀

Wolfe never ceases to amaze me. To prepare for the draft, Wolfe…

  • …packed on 15 pounds of solid muscle
  • …bench pressed 225 pounds, 23 times
  • …ran a 4.38 in the 40 yard dash

Wolfe was picked up by my hometown Chicago Bears in the third round as the 93rd pick of the draft.

The big quote that has been making its way around is by Director of College Scouting, Greg Gabriel:

On what Wolfe’s role will be in the offense and what he did to impress them:
“Situational back. Change-of-pace back. He’s got huge production. He led the nation. He’s done well against a lot of the big schools – Ohio State, those places. He put up big numbers. He’s very fast. We had him in here a couple weeks ago for a workout. Had an outstanding workout and caught everything. [Running backs coach Time Spencer] was throwing the balls, and he doesn’t throw a great pass. You’ve seen him at practice. The ball never touched the ground. He had a great, great workout for us.”

Coincidentally, the Bear’s first game of the ’07 season is against the Chargers in San Diego. The last time I was at Qualcomm Stadium, I was watching Wolfe playing for the Huskies in the Poinsettia Bowl. Looks like the next time I’m there, I’ll be watching Wolfe playing for the Bears!

Your my boy, Wolfe!
